One Eyed Kaiju

The "One Eyed Kaiju" is a project to create a comical Japanese style Kaiju or Yokai like creature.

This project started with some sketches to get the general form and elements I wanted the sculpt to show.

First pull from silicone mold. The first cast was made with Smooth-On Smooth Cast 327 and using a pressure pot. The Smooth Cast 327 was used to get a first shot piece for making additional molds once a mold is exhausted. Following casts were made using Smooth-On 65D and a roto-casting machine I had built. The roto-casted pieces were lighter in weight due to the 65D characteristics and the ability to get hollow pieces from the roto-casting.

Final roto-casted pieces with paint applications.

For the accompanying artwork, I wanted a Japanese style watercolor print. I started with a sketch and scanned it for additional editing and to get high resolution line art. I printed the high resolution line art on mixed media paper suitable for taking watercolors. The watercolor artwork was then scanned to add text and effects graphic title elements.
